The Cady Chronicles
A Handmade Paper Series Honoring Movement, Voice, and Quiet Rebellion
The Cady Chronicles is a mixed media series inspired by the spirit of Elizabeth Cady Stanton—trailblazer, writer, and fierce advocate for women's rights. Through the whimsical figure of "Ms. Cady," these artworks imagine a modern-day embodiment of Stanton’s determination and grace as she navigates a world still catching up to her vision.
Each piece in the series is crafted on handmade paper created from gladiolus leaves grown in the artist’s garden. Gladiolus, known for its strength and sword-like leaves, reflects the resilience and conviction behind the work. The layered cut-paper imagery is made from hand-pulled cotton and abaca sheets, also created in the studio, giving each scene tactile dimension and thoughtful imperfection.
Ms. Cady appears in many forms: driving a truck down rebellious roads, sipping tea with quiet resolve, or simply existing in a world that doesn’t define her. Her story is not told with a loud shout but with intentional detail—each texture, color, and composition reflecting the ongoing journey of courage, creativity, and change.
This series is for those who believe in slow revolutions, for those who grow things by hand, and for those who keep showing up—on their own terms.
