This handmade paper bookmark is inspired by my membership in the Creepy Book Club and the micro story “The Unopened Door” that can only be accessed using the QR Code on the bookmark.
Each bookmark is one-of-a-kind, crafted from hand-pulled cotton and abaca paper. The front features layered silhouettes: a shadowy figure waiting at the threshold of an ornate, mysterious door, while a lone female figure flees across the night sky. The embossed textures and pulp-painted colors—deep blues, yellows, and russet accents—suggest both warning and invitation.
Turn the bookmark over, and the scene shifts. A solitary reader perches atop a precarious tower of books, framed against a brick wall—symbolic of stories that trap and stories that free. Hidden within the layers is a tiny QR code that unlocks the exclusive short story The Unopened Door, written to accompany this artwork.
